Are remote biotech internships actually worth it?

Yes — if you pick the right kind. Here's the honest filter we use.

Remote internships exploded after 2020 and have not slowed down. But the quality range is enormous. Here is how to tell a good one from a CV-padder.

Green flags

  • Assigned mentor with named industry experience
  • Real deliverables reviewed weekly
  • Live sessions, not just recorded videos
  • A verifiable certificate with a public verification URL
  • Project work tied to actual industry datasets or scenarios

Red flags

  • 'Internship' that is really just a video course
  • No mentor name, only a generic 'team'
  • Certificate that cannot be verified online
  • Pay-and-receive with no evaluation step

Where remote works best

Bioinformatics, regulatory affairs, scientific writing, market research, and clinical data management. Wet-lab work obviously requires in-person time.
